RAY COLTON VALLERY
Attorney at Law

What to expect at your first consultation

When you sit down with me for the first time, I won’t be saying a lot.  I’ll be listening.  Every client has a story.  Every story is unique.  The more details I know about your story, the more I’ll be able to help you.

After I hear your story, I ask questions.  I don’t proceed until I know I have all the facts.  If you would like a free initial consultation, please contact me.

A low-key approach

Bringing a lawsuit isn’t easy for a client.  Emotions can run high.  If you think you might end up in court, you need someone who can remain calm in a crisis.  I don’t get in the other side’s face, and I almost never raise my voice.  I find it’s rarely needed and might even do more harm than good.  If the other side’s lawyer believes you’re being unreasonable, they’re a lot less likely to give you the settlement you deserve.

At the same time, I’m not afraid of being aggressive.  If I believe that a trial is necessary, I will vigorously advocate my client’s position in court.  Because I’ve been trying cases for so long, I am very familiar with the North Carolina court system.  I can’t always predict how a case will go, but my experience gives me a better idea than most.

If you’re in the military, you need someone who understands what you face.

In addition to the stresses of everyday life, the military is on the alert.  Most civilians don’t see the effects of the war, but military personnel see it every day.  When people in the military get divorced, they don’t just face the usual battles.  They have another set of issues to address:

  • Where can I file for divorce?
  • What if there are proceedings in other states?
  • If my husband and I live in different states, who gets custody of the children?
  • How will I see my kids if I’m stationed somewhere else?
  • Who takes care of my kids if both of us get deployed?
  • How do we arrange visitation if my ex-wife gets transferred?

At the law office of Ray Colton Vallery, I’ve been working beside Fort Bragg for 39 years.  Men and women in uniform face a lot of the same problems civilians face. They get injured in car accidents.   They get divorced.  They get involved in custody battles.
